Welcome Parents!
You might be worried about your daughter joining a sorority. You've seen the movies and TV shows. You've heard the crazy stories about parties and hazing. Don't worry. In reality, the negative image of Greek life portrayed in the media is far from the truth. There are many benefits of joining a sorority. Iota Delta is committed to providing a support group to help make the adjustment to college easier, scholastic resources to help your daughter achieve her academic goals, leadership skills acquired through hands-on experience, constant encouragement to get involved thus maximizing her potential on campus and in the community, and opportunities for active participation. Greek men and women are well-rounded members of the community who maintain a high level of commitment to academics, leadership, service, and campus involvement. Greeks are among the most outstanding and highest achieving students at the University of La Verne and nationwide. Here's the truth about Greek life and Iota Delta:
Academics
Iota Delta is committed to providing resources to help your daughter achieve her academic goals. We offer programs such as study sessions, study hour competitions, candy for As, and ditch-and-donate. We require all active sisters to maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and currently, hold a cumulative 3.4 GPA.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Iota Delta is committed to offering your daughter chances to develop and improve leadership skills acquired through hands-on experience, constant encouragement to get involved thus maximizing her potential on campus and in the community, and opportunities for active participation. We also promote professionalism and help sisters succeed in interviews and the workplace. Iota Delta is known for its heavy involvement in extra-curricular activities both on and off campus. Sisters hold positions and are involved in the following activities: ASULV (Student Government), Campus Activities Board, Order of Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity, Orientation Week Leaders & Coordinators, Preview Week Leaders & Coordinators, Spotlight Weekend Leader & Coordinators, First Generation Program, Latino Student Forum, Hillel Jewish Club, Choral Organization, Theater, LeoFM Radio, LVTV3, and many more.
Parties
While parties and social events are part of Greek life and the college experience, those are never our priorities. We believe education always comes first since this is the reason she is at school. We encourage your daughter to have fun and participate in social events so she may get the most out of her college experience, but only if school remains a priority. There are many sisters who enjoy going out, and many sisters who enjoy staying in. In any case, sisters are never pushed to participate in activities in which they feel uncomfortable. When sisters go out, we always do so in groups and always behave responsibly.
Hazing
The University of La Verne and Iota Delta have a zero-tolerance policy regarding hazing. Hazing includes any activity that subjects members to harassment, ridicule, intimidation, physical exhaustion, abuse, or mental distress. Hazing is contrary to the purposes of the fraternity and sorority community and the University of La Verne. If at any time a new member or sister feels uncomfortable, she is free to express her discomfort and cease participation.
Financial Obligations
New members fees are $250, and then $200 each semester after initiation. These costs go toward all chapter expenses and social functions throughout the semester. There may be additional fees for chapter pictures, t-shirts, food, and etc. We understand making payments can be difficult. For this reason, we are ready to work with your daughter to help her pay dues. Custom payment plans can be created and a Kimberly Teurs Scholarship is given each year to a deserving sister. Financial obligations should never hold your daughter back from joining Greek life. We make sure every sister can pay dues.
